Nearest airport is in Nyaung U (Nyaung Oo), 6 km to the north of old Bagan. Most foreign visitors travel to Bagan by flight from Yangon, Mandalay or Heho. Overnight buses run between Yangon and Bagan, and Kalaw, Nyaung Shwe and Bagan. Day buses are available between Bagan and Mandalay. Mandalay and Bagan are also linked by double or triple drcker boat on the Ayeyarwaddy river.
